Profile of a Potential Counsellor

SMC considers all applications on their individual merit; there are some general guidelines below. If you would like any further clarification please do not hesitate to get in touch. Applicants are expected to demonstrate :

We generally look for applicants to be in, or have experience of, a marriage or long-term relationship of at least seven years. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate wide experience of negotiating difficulties and crises within their marriage/relationship and life.

Applicants who are divorced or separated will show that they have come to terms with their situation – over a minimum period of 3 years. Applicants should also highlight the insight gained into the causes of their marriage breakdown and their own part in it.

For those applicants who have suffered a major bereavement or life change we would consider it vital that sufficient time has passed for them to come to terms with their loss.

Single people with relevant attributes and experience will also be considered.
